about

Compilation and introduction to the world of Blackpool Towers

From youth, the musician in Montesquieu was a force to be reckoned with. Yet, a force hampered by lack of skill, and a force caged by a drum kit. The cage quickly became a device of hiding, and Montesquieu stopped being seen or heard as more than an instrument by those around em, much to their annoyance that instrument was a rather loud drum kit.

Late 2016, Montesquieu saw an invitation from Andy Androgyny into an art collective, Bomb Erotica, as the chance to unlock their potential and create for themselves a bedroom studio. Beginning with badly played guitars and stunted industrial loops on Demos and I Really Tried was not fruitful. Montesquieu was a force, but in no way a talent.

As the new year came in, a friend of Montesquieu's presented themselves as a vocalist for the ramshackle creations of "Trans", a face for the invisible man to push into the industry. Blackpool Tower Demos was born.

Coffee had started their music career with, now unlisted and lost, trip hop remixes of spoken word Anal Cunt covers. This move saw Cfe take on somewhat juvenile, and incredible stupid demeanor. The music wasn't really music, but it also wasn't orchestrated noise. It was just bad memes. Cfe saw in themselves a duality, the well-slept Mark E Smith wannabe (rest in peace), and the caffiene induced neanderthal with no filters and shit social perception.

Montesquieu saw this battle in them, attempted to use it. Divide and conquer, even giving in to the tired malformed sack that Cfe became after 4am on tracks such as Translate.

Appeasing the bully didn't work, and Cfe stopped drinking caffeinated drinks.

Soon thereafter, with stolen drum loops from Montesquieu's laptop, Cfe created their own story. Drollotics. Using saxophone, incredible rudimentary electronica and guitar skills, and the singing which joined the two originally, this sprawling mess that would tear them apart was born. Political punk-blues, noise rock, and touches of free jazz.

Montesquieu claims ignorance to the whereabouts of Coffee hereafter, and focused on a creation of his own. Montesquieu's production talent was growing from peanut-brained into a full kurrajong, and hence Fibs was born. A clear usurpation of Cfe's vocals, and Montesquieu's personal best so far.

A malleable and yet inquisitive Tess Dawson approached the label upon hearing Fibs. from a background in political videos on the internet, the openly trans Tess decided that she wanted to be a frontman, and who better to choose than the artist who created Trans?
Probably a soundcloud producer, but their beats have been stolen enough, already.

Montesquieu began working, a track a day for a month. Tess would be allowed to pick instrumentals, create lyrics from love poems, and sing over them.
Montesquieu enjoyed this dynamic, staying totally hidden, without even being named as a featured artist, and still pushing the boundaries of their production knowledge.

Ice was released after the month completed, and Tess' proposal for 5 more EPs, one on every major holiday (including locally significant St Andrew's day) was accepted.
Montesquieu, however, was too ambitious to produce a mere 6 EPs, and had a lot of gunk building up within them. Another month of tracks would pass before they gave themselves a break. Tess; ambitions were met, Fire was even more gooey and fluid than Ice, like the concepts themselves. Ice is cold, solid, industrial, and Fire is gloopy, floaty plasma. Vapor was a wonderful break from the darkness.

No such break would be found in the darkness of Montesquieu's head, and they began writing lyrics, heavily inspired by The Ooz, and as the darkness reached its peak, a collection of dark ambient pieces were released in remembrance of Lil Peep.
Tess worried for their well being and took steps to help them, work with them, and becoming far more involved with production than before on "Ugh".

Montesquieu's problems being vented through the lyrics acted as therapy for the gunk, a proper release of tensions. With the EP completed, and their mental health much better, they created Therapy and Purpose as stand-alones.
Tess encouraged Montesquieu to allow her more say in creating backing for these tracks, and that the EP might become an album about recovery with them on it.

Whilst looking for more to work with for "Ugh", Tess came across Cfe's old poem, Procrastinate, and felt it fitted. Hence an album was complete.
Tess looked back to the last time someone other than Montesquieu had released an LP on Blackpool Tower Demos, "Drollotics" was revisited and Tess was absolutely perplexed. Where had Cfe gone?
Darkpunk seemed oddly related to Cfe, and Tess couldn't put her finger on why.

Montesquieu was ever aware, observing when Tess didn't even realise they were still at the flat/studio, and when confronted, they had nothing to tell her. What could anyone find in a bunch of instrumentals? It made no sense to them.

Riding high from Tire and Ugh, Montesquieu ended the year with a lot of positivity on Newthony Yeartano, and using old Cfe lyrics on Pitter Patter, Tess featured on the EP. Yet, Cfe wasn't forgotten.

Now they're back, appearing in the group Blackpool Tower ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-zgdbQ9tUQ ), nobody but those in the group have a clue where Coffee went, but we're glad to have retained our main members.
